[Also in Division G3] A circuit arrangement for charging batteries 10 from an A.C. source 20 comprises a rectifier 12-18, current limiting capacitor 22 with a resistor 24 thereacross being connected in series with the rectifier on the A.C. side thereof and two oppositely connected Zener diodes 26, 28 being connected in parallel to the A.C. terminals of the rectifier. The elements 22, 24 provide a current limiting effect and the diodes 26, 28 a voltage clipping effect, thus preventing damage to the batteries 10. In other embodiments, a resistor may be connected in series between the rectifier and the batteries, the Zener diodes may be combined into one element having a double anode or the Zener diodes may form two arms of the rectifier bridge. |
