Rolled leaf tea is sliced to ideally 1 mm2 by sets of concentric rings of different diameter mounting radial rectangular blades which shear against one another in the ring gap between the rings. Several sets of rings are superposed in the machine, thus forming an upwards truncating cone. The blades are all identical for easy exchange and replacement. All outer rings are commonly driven and all inner rings are commonly driven through belting. The leaf tea is sheared without friction as the rings turn opposite ways, thus reducing the leaf to size without damaging it. |
