[Also in Division A2] A container for use in carrying out the heat treatment of a packaged product (4) has walls transmissive to electromagnetic or acoustic waves made for example from glass fibrereinforced plastics material, an inlet for a fluid medium and a fluid outlet having a pressure valve therein arranged to open at a predetermined pressure value. In operation, the container with packaged product therein is moved into or through an electromagnetic or acoustic field and at the same time the fluid medium is pressurised to prevent the package bursting. After heating the package is cooled by passing cool medium through the container still under pressure, until the pressure in the package has fallen to a value insufficient to burst the package. A suitable container is shown in the accompanying figure. This container is provided with openings 6, 7 which are closed by valves 8 and 9, valve 8 being normally closed, and opening only on a predetermined pressure being reached. |
