Vacuum metal heat treatment furnace of the type having a heating zone, an adjacent transfer zone and a quench zone located beneath the transfer zone, has an elevator for moving articles to and from the transfer zone to the quench zone, apparatus for reducing the pressure in the furnace to maintain the furnace at required subatmospheric pressure during heating and quenching cycles, and a mechanism, including a hydraulic lift using quench fluid as operating fluid, for vertically moving the elevator. additionally the heating zone of the furnace has pivotally mounted door, operated from outside of the furnace. |
