Goods stores with rigidly mounted and spaced apart rows of shelves to form tracks between individual rows includes a vehicle in each track fitted with a transferring device for transporting the goods in vertical direction. The lifted and transferred units are driven by own drive in horizontal direction along rails laid in each floor of the row of shelves both sides of the track. Each transport unit efficiently transfers the goods across direction of its movement and a control is also provided for automatically loading or off loading the goods. The transport unit and the transferring device are independently controlled and at least one waiting rail is for storing unused transport units. The ends of the rails in each floor are fitted with a blocking device which is released when the transferring device with the transport unit is positioned at the same level.
