Maleic anhydride separation - from gaseous mixtures by condensation in liquid state

Removal of maleic acid anhydride from gaseous mixtures is facilitated when it is condensed in the liquid state, not in the solid state. The condensation is effected in a condenser comprising one or more cooling tubes or fingers closed at the bottom, which are suspended in the condenser and contain a flowing cooling medium (pref. water). Method is used in the mfr. of maleic acid anhydride by catalytic oxidation of benzene or 4C-hydrocarbons with air.
