An open mould is used with a feeding grid across its open upper edge during the filling process and either the charging hopper or the mould can be displaced relative to the grid to separate the mass in the mould from that in the hopper. Pref. the charging mechanism is a hopper car which can be driven across the mould and whose dimensions correspond to the mould cross section.
