1363409 Membrane roof for a stadium or tank D A SINOSKI 14 March 1972 [17 March 1971] 11905/72 Headings E1A and E1T A membrane roof for a stadium or a tank consists of a plurality of segments 12, Fig. 1, which are interconnected by sheet-like expansion joint members, see Figs. 4-7, (not shown) and supported at their peripheries by columns 20 disposed within an encircling wall 18; each expansion joint member being convoluted when unstressed and less convoluted when under tension. In a modification, roof segments 13, Fig. 8, are supported by steel pipe sections 38 which are each reinforced by a plate 40 and are themselves supported by plate and channel members 42, 44, 46, 50, 52, 54 as shown. In a tank, Fig. 11, wherein the walls 118 are supported on a concrete ring wall 162, the roof 110 is suspended by a cable 115 connected to a support ring 138; a seal 130 and a flexible drain line 142 being provided as shown. The roof may be constructed over an ice base encircled by a concrete wall having a tank shell mounted thereon; polystyrene sheeting is placed on the ice and the roof sections placed thereon and welded to-gether prior to being floated up and secured into final position.
