In order to reduce the transmission of vibrations up a gear shift lever, the lever is formed with a stem member 12 the lower end of which is accommodated with radial and axial clearance in a socket portion 18 of an actuator member 14. The stem and socket are resiliently interconnected by a ball 20 of polyurethane having a stepped aperture the walls of which are adhesively bonded to the members 12, 14. The ball 20 forms the pivot for the lever and is resiliently held in a socket 40 of a housing 28 by a spring 42. The lower end of the member 14 is formed with a pair of legs 22 straddling a crank pin 32 projecting from an arm 30 fast with a selector rod 26 which is rotated to select conventional striker members and shifted axially to establish a ratio. In order to prevent inadvertent selection of reverse one leg 22 is long enough to limit movement of the shift lever by engagement with the selector rod 26 unless the lever is lifted against the force of spring 42 to raise the leg clear of the rod. |
