1411943 Winding tape on cores RAYCHEM Ltd 11 Oct 1972 [12 Oct 1971] 47471/71 Heading B8G [Also in Division F2] A substrate is covered by a heat shrinkable tape arranged in overlapping relation, the material of the tape comprising a cross linked copolymer derived from an ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon and a carboxylic acid ester having ethylenic unsaturation and being such that the surfaces in contact at the overlaps bond to each other on heating, and the tape is heated to effect such bonding and shrinkage. Deliberate tension may be applied to the tape during wrapping to impact a high degree of shrinkability in the tape. The tape may be wound round a mandrel coated with a release agent and the mandrel removed. The tape material may be a copolymer derived from ethylene or anα-ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon and a vinyl ester or an ester of fumaric maleic, itaconic, methacrylic or acrylic acid and may also be a terpolymer or a bend of two or more polymers. |
