1356197 Moulding containers TOKAN KOGYO CO Ltd and J SETO 19 April 1971 [12 Feb 1970] 21592/71 Addition to 1333109 Heading B5 A A2A1 A2L A2E4A A2E4E A2E6 A2E1E A2E8 A container having a foamed thermoplastic wall 2b, Fig. 12 II, and a thermoplastic or non- thermoplastic bottom 7a is moulded by the method described in the main Specification 1333109. The strength of the container is improved by (1) before any heating, pressing the portion of the wall 2b, Fig. 8, that will form the container lower rim 2 2 C<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 12, against the bottom material 7a, or (2) pressing as in (1) before or after heating, and applying air-pressure through a vent 3c, Fig. 8, to deform the wall 2b while in a plastic state, to form a groove 2 1 C<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 12I, or (3) pressing as in (1) before or after heating, and additionally pressing the bottom material 7a upwards against the wall 2b while the wall is in a plastic state. The wall 2b and bottom material 7a are inserted between the mould 3, Fig. 8, and die 4 before or during steam or air heating of these. The lower brim press 3a and bottom press 3f are moved by fluid-pressure at least partly simultaneously. The face 4b of the die 4 is spring-urged. The wall member 2b is cylindrical or prismatic, comprising polystyrene, polyethylene, P.V.C., or a laminate of foamed polystyrol and P.V.C., prefoamed to 7-10 times the starting volumes. The overlapped edges of the wall member 2b are melt bonded during moulding, or are previously bonded or pasted. The wall can be extruded, when heat is only required adjacent the container upper and lower brims, on moulding. The bottom 7a comprises foamed or non-formed polystyrene, polyethylene, or P.V.C. in powder, compacted powder, bead or sheet form; phenolic or urea resins in powder or compacted powder form; paper, cardboard, waterpoofed cardboard, wood, aluminium foil, or tin plate. |
