A control lever used in vehicles, is equipped with an indicator to provide a drive of display of specific positions. The actuating lever (4) is pivot mounted on a base (2) fixed to the base plate (1) and is capable of moving through a fixed arc. A pin on the shaft (18) has ends of a cable (15) looped around it. The cable passes over a pulley (14) on a fixed bracket (7) and a second pulley (13) concentric with an indicator wheel (22). The cable is tensioned by a spring (12). The indicator has a number of display elements (23) on the periphery relating to specific working positions of the lever. These are readily viewed through an aperture (26) in the top plate.
