PRODUCTION OF SILICEOUS POROUS MATERIAL

PURPOSE:To provide a siliceous porous material capable of accurately controlling pore diameters and porosity, having high porosity and sufficient mechanical strength free from fear of staining a permeated liquid. CONSTITUTION:Amorphous siliceous particles are mixed with a silica sol to form a slurry having 0.01-15wt.% calculated as solid of silica in the silica sol based on the siliceous particles. The slurry is molded and a silica sol in the molded article is gelatinized. Then, the molded article is burnt at a temperature lower than the softening temperature of the siliceous particles.
