A method for selectively collecting and treating household refuse and household refuse-like industrial waste, in which the refuse is collected without mixing in a plurality of waste groups, stored in separate containers and transported away separately, is to be improved with respect to the sorting process of the waste groups. For this purpose, it is provided that at the refuse input a selection control is actuated and this control triggers a treatment process which is matched to the waste group and treats the refuse for compact storage and stores it in the compact form in the associated container and in that the individual waste groups are transported away in compact form.
