A conveyor for transporting a document (16) around a curved track (10) includes a continuous boundary wall (20) or an array of guide cylinders provided on the outside of a corner around which the track passes. A breaking cylinder (30) which is rotated preferably with the same surface velocity as the document (16) constricts the document (16) against the boundary (20) and opens out any longitudinal folds (22) therein to reduce the mechanical strength which they cause in the document (16). A drive mechanism (28) then fattens the document (16) against the boundary (20) and renders the document (16) flexible for the continuation of its transportation around the curved track (10). Dog-ears on the leading edge of a document (16) are folded back against the document (16) or smoothed over to prevent any impediment to further document transporting. <IMAGE> |
