PURPOSE:To prevent the excess increase of generating voltage (voltage to ground of coils), and to protect a plurality of superconductive coils positively by dividing the superconductive coils into a plurality of coils groups brought to the same conditions approximately electromagnetically and separately exciting a plurality of the coil groups. CONSTITUTION:When normal conductive transfer is generated in either toroidal coil during the operation of a toroidal coil during the operation of a toroidal electromagnet, both protective switches 14a, 14b are opened, and energy stored in both coil groups 17, 18 is each consumed by both protective resistors 15a, 15b. A discharge time constant at that time is obtained by dividing the composite inductance of toroidal coils 1, 8, 5, 7, 9, 11 belonging to the odd order coil group 17 by the resistance value of the protective resistor 15a on the side of the group 17 regarding the group 17. The same applies to the even order coil group 18. Even when the discharge time constant is shortened, a large-sized toroidal electromagnet having large inductance can be protected from normal conductive transfer without increasing voltage to ground of the coil groups 17, 18. |
