PURPOSE:To enable detection to be reliably performed by installing a cylindrical body having a cut around the end detection part of a detecting electrode and by opening and closing said cut by the movement of a float so as to control accumulation and release of gas existing around the detecting electrode. CONSTITUTION:A device for detecting the specific gravity and the liquid level of electrolyte is constituted by placing a cylindrical body 4 having a cut 5 in the peripheral wall surrounding the end detection part 1' of a detecting electrode 1 and by placing a vertically movable float 3 around the cylindrical body 4. When the specific gravity is below a normal level, the float 3 moves and gas is accumulated around the end detection part 1' to form a gaseous phase 6 which is prevented from coming into contact with electrolyte 7, thereby performing detection while producing no detection current. When the specific gravity becomes above the normal level, the float 3 reliably rised since it is prevented from becoming wet due to the presence of the cut 5. Accordingly, reliable detection can be performed without deteriorating the function of redetection. |
