PURPOSE:To improve the reliability in the detection of a tool fracture by ad justing easily and surely the sensitivity of an AE sensor and checking always the operating condition of the AE sensor system in the stage of monitoring the fracture of the tool. CONSTITUTION:An AE signal converter 4 is driven by a means for generating a pseudo fracture signal which generates the pseudo fracture signal having the same characteristic as the characteristic in the stage of the tool fracture in order to adjust the sensitivity of the AE sensor 11. The converter 4 is driven by an operation check signal which can be discriminated from the pseudo fracture signal during machining as well. The presence of certain abnormality in the AE sensor 11 or the signal processing system is made checkable when the continuous output of the operation check signal is no more obtd. from the sensor 11. The failure in detecting the fracture of the tool owing to the abnormality of the AE sensor is thus prevented. |
