PURPOSE:To obtain a skin-beautifying cosmetic composition for curing or preventing the darkening of skin caused by ultraviolet ray or the pigmentation of skin such as spots and freckles by using an extract of a plant belonging to the family Compositae such as artichoke as an active component. CONSTITUTION:The active component to be used in the present composition is a substance extracted from a plant of the family Compositae and soluble in an organic solvent having medium polarity, a monohydric or polyhydric lower alcohol or their mixture. The skin-beautifying cosmetic is prepared by mixing the extract with arbitrary assistant components for cosmetic preparation such as activation agent, binder and diluent. The preferable amount of the active component depends upon the form of the cosmetic and the desired melanogenesis-suppressing effect, however, it is usually about 0.001-1.0%, more preferably about 0.01-0.5%. The composition may be further compounded with conventional melanogenesis-suppressing agent (e.g. vitamin C and placenta extract), ultraviolet scattering agent, ultraviolet absorber, anti-inflammatory agent, etc. |
