In a method for regulating the crushing gap width in a gyratory cone mill comprising a crushing head 2, provided with a first crushing casing 3 and attached to a crushing shaft 1, and a second crushing casing 4, the first shaft 1 is raised and the width of the crushing gap 5 is basically adjusted to a predetermined minimum value by means of a hydraulic piston-cylinder unit 7. To ensure that the gap width never falls below this value, a regulating and indicating container 14 provided with a level sensor 15 is connected to the unit 7. If the liquid level in the container 14 comes level with the sensor 15, corresponding to the minimum value of the gap width, the sensor 15 send signals to a control apparatus, which temporarily halts the raising of the shaft 1. A device for regulating the crushing gap width in a cone mill of this type comprises the said container, which is preferably constituted by an elongated and vertically placed vessel 14 having a transparent wall through which the liquid level is visible and can be read by means of a scale 16 indicating the current gap width.
