PURPOSE: To provide a filter element for a smoking article, comprising a thermoplastic melt-blown fiber or filament, in which a prescribed amount thereof is present as an aggregate having fused points formed at the crossing parts of the fibers in the aggregate, and excellent in hardness of a filter, pressure decrease, and filter efficiency. CONSTITUTION: This filter element consists of a thermoplastic fiber or filament obtained by meltblowing (preferably made of polyolefins or polyesters) in which >=33% part thereof is present as a fused aggregate, and the major portion of the crossing points of the fibers in the aggregate are fused points. The thermoplastic material is preferably a PP(polypropylene), and the range of the deniers is preferably about 2.5-65. Preferably, the unit weight of the nonwoven web is about 0.5-1.0 oz/yd<2> , and the ratio of the grab tensile strength in the longitudinal direction to that in the lateral direction is about (1:1)-(4:1). Further, the rigidities by Handle-O-Meter in both longitudinal and lateral directions are preferably each <=40 g. |
