PURPOSE:To enable the production of chitinase as well as chitosanase in spite of the use of a strain of genus Bacillus, by using a novel microorganism having the bacteriological properties of Bacillus sp.PI-7-S (FERM P-9843). CONSTITUTION:A novel microorganism having the bacteriological properties of Bacillus sp.PI-7-S (FERM P-9843) and produced by the sampling and screening of microbial strains collected in a bathing beach of Hamamura hot-spring, Tottori Prefecture, Japan can produce chitinase and chitosanase by using chitin as an inducing substrate. The microorganism also has a property to produce mainly chitosanase when chitosan is used as an inducing substrate. Both chitinase and chitosanase can be effectively produced by adding flake chitin to the culture medium. These enzymes produced by the above method have extremely high activities. The present microorganism is useful in facilitating the waste disposal and reutilization of the crust of shrimp, crab, etc., having chitinous substance and in decomposing the whole body of krill into eatable components. |
