A plasma display device and a driving method thereof are provided to improve image quality by securing uniform charge states on all display cells after a priming period. A plasma display device includes a display panel(1) having plural display cells and a driving circuit. Plural scan, sustain, and data electrodes are formed on the display cells. The driving circuit applies voltages on the scan, sustain, and data electrodes based on image data. One field is divided into at least one sub-field. A priming period is provided for at least one sub-field. The driving circuit estimates a discharge initiation voltage at a first value, when a panel temperature is determined to be a first value. When the panel temperature is lower than the first value, the discharge initiation voltage is lower than the first value. The waveform of a voltage, which is applied on one of the scan and sustain electrodes, is varied, when an estimated result lies between the first and second values. After the priming discharge, the difference in charges of the display cells is decreased.
