In order to remove hydrogen from a hydrogen-filled electric machine (1), the hydrogen is removed from the machine (1), introduced into and stored in a solid accumulator (2). The hydrogen is conveyed by means of an inert gas current. In particular, the solid accumulator (2) is an absorption accumulator, preferably a hydride accumulator.
