PURPOSE: To obtain a reforming device for a hydrocarbon fuel which always maintains an active catalytic effect, is made in a simple structure and small in size and inexpensive, and has a long life. CONSTITUTION: This device is equipped with a preheating device 30 to preheat a hydrocarbon fuel, a heating device 60 for water vapor to heat water vapor to high temp., a mixing device 80 to mix the preheated hydrocarbon fuel in the preheating device 30 and the water vapor heated at high temp. in the water vapor heating device 60, and a reforming device 100 having a reforming catalyst layer 90 to effect the reaction of the hydrocarbon fuel and high temp. water vapor mixed in the mixing device 80 to reform into a fuel essentially comprising hydrogen. The mixing device 80 is disposed near the reforming catalyst layer 90 so that the hydrocarbon fuel and water vapor at high temp. are mixed just prior to the reforming catalyst layer 90 and the reforming reaction with water vapor can be instantly caused in the reforming catalyst layer 90. |
