The container has a continuous mesh wall (1) and a base made from a synthetic mesh material, opening out into the shape of a cylinder. The base and side walls are joined together by thermal welding. The container is made by extrusion from a polyolefin material, and has one, or preferably two, side pleats (3, 3') so it can be folded flat for storage. The cells of the mesh material are smaller than 10 mm in size, and preferably smaller than 5 mm, while the dimensions of the container are sufficient to hold the appropriate quantity of soil and humus for the roots of the plant it holds.
