The mill saw (1) has a register with a pre-set free saw-blade length (9) for the preliminary cutting of the block. The subsequent cutting of the block (11) is carried out with a register with a shorter free saw-blade length. The same suspension points on the mill frame can be used for the different free saw-blade lengths. The ends of the saw blades (2) for the subsequent cutting are clamped between longer side bands (5,6) than the ends of the saw blades used for the preliminary cutting with the same suspension length.
