<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of switch terminals without changing the number of tape traveling modes. SOLUTION: The mode detector comprises a rotary switch 8 for issuing a 2 bit detecting signal when detecting a tape traveling mode, a determining circuit 35 for reading the detecting signal and comparing this signal with a reference signal and a control circuit 3 for stopping the transfer of the traveling mode when the determining circuit 35 detects the reaching a specified traveling mode. During transfer to the specified traveling mode, the control circuit 3 is connected to a memory 50 for temporarily storing a bit string corresponding to an immediately passed traveling mode and a flag circuit 5 for deciding a virtual bit value by the first or second bit value of the bit string as a reference. When the rotary switch 8 detects a traveling mode, the determining circuit 35 determines which mode the detected mode is based on a virtual bit string formed by adding a detecting signal from the rotary switch 8 to the virtual bit value stored in the memory 50.</p> |
