<p>A power management apparatus for a personal computer comprises a line fault detector (36), which detects loss of AC mains power (1), and a backup power source (6), preferably a battery (6), which provides electricity to the computer's memory (14) when the power loss is detected. The apparatus also includes a programmable switch (9), which distributes the electricity from the backup power source (6) only to those components within the computer that are necessary to maintain the memory (14) intact, while cutting off power from non-essential components.</p> |
