The roller motor comprises a housing (1) located in a self-locking gearbox with which the one end (30) of a tension device (29) is connected. The other end (31) is fastened to a roll-up unit provided in a roller shutter box. The self-locking gearbox has a coupling point (11) for an electrical or mechanical drive device (12,25) which can be connected. Devices are provided which store energy arising from a downwards movement of the Venetian blind that can be supplied further for an upwards movement of the blind.
