The surfboard includes a board (10) and a plate (20) secured to the bottom of the board and formed from foamable material. A reinforcing mesh (30) is embedded in the plate and includes a number of mesh openings (31). The material for forming the plate extends into the mesh openings for allowing the reinforcing mesh to be solidly embedded in the plate. The reinforcing mesh may be wholly embedded in the lower portion of the plate or may have a thickness equal to, or greater than that of the plate.
