<p>Disclosed are an apparatus and a process for removing, at a high efficiency, unreacted monomer contained in a polymer latex having a high foaming property which apparatus comprises a cylindrical tower, one or more plates which have many small holes perforated therethrough and are provided in a vertical direction in the tower, partition walls and an overflow wall formed on each of the plates, one or more chambers formed on one or more of the plates with the plate being their bottom surface, a latex discharging port provided at the chamber formed on the lowermost plate, at least one latex introducing port provided at the chamber formed on at least one upper plate, a deaerating port provided at a position higher than the latex introducing port, a downcomer for flowing down a latex therethrough from an upper plate to a lower plate, and a steam introducing port provided below the lowermost plate, the chambers standing 3 to 300 times as high as the overflow wall, and the cross-sectional area of the tower being 50 to 1000 times as large as the total area of the small holes perforated through the plate; and which process uses the apparatus described above. <IMAGE></p> |
