PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a bright display by taking incident light sufficiently and efficiently. SOLUTION: A light beam introducing member 20 which emits incident light through an upper polarizing plate as a light beam having a polarized component parallel to the transmission axis of the upper polarizing plate is provided on the upper surface side which is the light beam introducing side of a liquid crystal cell. This light beam introducing member 20 consists of a reflective polarizing plate 23 arranged on a transparent board 21 at a slant, a phase difference plate 25 which changes the phase difference of a light beam reflected by the reflective polarizing plate 23, and a reflecting member 24 which reflect the light beam transmitted through the phase difference plate 25 toward the upper polarizing plate. Accordingly, the light beam having a polarized component parallel to the transmission axis of the reflective polarizing plate 23 among light beams made incident on the light beam introducing member 20 is transmitted directly and made incident on the upper polarizing plate. Moreover, a light beam having a polarized component parallel to the reflective axis of the reflective polarizing plate 23 is reflected, the phase of the beam is deviated by the phase difference plate 25, the beam is reflected by a reflecting member 24, is transmitted again through the phase difference plate 25, and then is made incident on the upper polarizing plate 2. Thereby, most of light beams made incident on the light beam introducing member 20 can be made incident on the upper polarizing plate. |
