The invention relates to a device and method for diffusing a protective flux. In order to protect one area (2) of a service station, a more or less parallel air flow (9) is created in the direction of said area. Above a threshold F, the air flow has a gradually increasing speed V22 and, below said threshold, the air flow speed V21 is more or less uniform along the length of a flow section in a plane P which is transverse to the direction of flow D. According to the invention, one possible configuration for an air flow (9) diffusion device (1), which allows a confinement barrier to be created, consists of a diffusing wall (4) comprising a main wall (11) and a lateral wall (12). The main planar wall is adapted to diffuse a main laminar flow (91) in the sterile area (2) to be protected. The lateral wall (12) is adapted to diffuse a lateral flow (92) divergent from the main flow. A skirt (6) is disposed to create an obstacle to the lateral flow and to accelerate said flow by means of deflection. The inventive diffusion device can be used to isolate and maintain a sterile area (2), e.g. in the agri-food and pharmaceutical industries.
