This invention provides a novel cyclic phosphoric acid compound and an asymmetric synthesis method using the cyclic phosphoric acid compound as a catalyst. This invention is based on finding that a novel cyclic phosphoric acid compound represented by formula (1) can be prepared from tartaric acid and that the cyclic phosphoric acid compound can be used as a catalyst for asymmetric synthesis. (1) wherein R<SUB>1</SUB> and R<SUB>2</SUB> each independently represent a hydrogen atom, an optionally branched alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms or an aryl group; and R<SUB>3</SUB>, R<SUB>4</SUB>, R<SUB>5</SUB>, and R<SUB>6</SUB> each independently represent an optionally substituted aryl group.
