Container-closure arrangement

A container-closure arrangement comprises a container (10) having a base (13) and peripheral wall (15). A rim (16) forms an upper margin of the wall surrounding the container opening. An external bead (17) is formed integrally with the rim, and an internal bead (20) is formed integrally with the rim projecting inwardly of the container. The closure (11) has a closure portion that includes a central region (14), and is adapted to overlie the opening of the container opening. A skirt (30) is formed integrally with the closure portion and surrounds the rim when the closure is mounted to the container. The skirt comprises a first portion (32) to surround the rim, and a second portion (34) comprising a band frangibly connected to and extending downwardly from the first portion to surround the rim. The second portion has a first ledge (40) located within and formed integrally therewith, the first ledge being located in interlocking engagement with the external bead (17). A second ledge (42) is formed integrally with the closure portion and located in interlocking engagement with the internal bead (20). The second portion can be detached from the first portion to enable its removal from the closure and from its interlocking engagement with the container external bead. The container may also comprise an integral container flange (24) extending out from the container wall below the rim. An extra sealing projection and recess may be included. The central region may include a stacking skirt supported on an internal step.
