PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing metal nanopowder where, in the method for producing metal powder where a metal chloride is evaporated, and is thereafter brought into reduction reaction with gaseous hydrogen at high temperature, so as to produce metal powder, a small amount of gaseous ammonia is simultaneously fed together with the gaseous hydrogen, thus metal nanopowder with a grain size smaller than that by an ordinary method and an extremely narrow grain size distribution can be produced inexpensively. SOLUTION: Quartz tubes 1, 2 with different diameters are introduced into first and second tubular furnaces 3, 4. The first tubular furnace is used for evaporating a metal chloride 5 as the raw material while feeding gaseous nitrogen, and the second tubular furnace is used for simultaneously feeding gaseous hydrogen and gaseous ammonia while keeping the feed of the gaseous nitrogen, and causing reduction reaction with the evaporated metal chloride vapor. In the case of nickel chloride, it is evaporated at 780 to 850°C in the first tubular furnace, and, in the second tubular furnace, nickel nanopowder is produced at 500 to 900°C.
