CONSTITUTION:An image pick-up device 3 is installed in an arbitrary revolution angle so that each side of a polygonal shaped objective article crosses with the luster scanning line of the image pick-up device for image picking-up the objective article. The image signal obtained by the image pick-up device 3 is digital-converted and binary-conversion-processed, and the binary image of the objective article is luster-scanned, and the boundary of the binary image is pursued, and the coordinates of the crossing point between the boundary and each luster scanning line is obtained. The standard position of the objective article is obtained from the coordinates of the crossing point of the boundary. Accordingly, the defect of the position data of the boundary of the objective article can be eliminated, and the positioning for the polygonal objective article can be executed with high precision.
