PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially advantageous method for preparing a (2-formyl-1-alkenyl)cyclopropane compound. SOLUTION: In the presence of a base, 2,2-dimethyl-3-formylcyclopropanecarboxylic acid or its ester is reacted with an aldehyde compound to prepare the (2-formyl-1-alkenyl)cyclopropane compound represented by formula (3) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each a hydrogen atom, an optionally substituted alkyl group or the like).
