PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide substances each having the ability to inhibit testosterone-5α-reductase activity, the activities of inhibiting and suppressing cancer cell proliferation, the abilities to inhibit cyclooxygenase and 5-lipoxygenase, the ability to inhibit normal melanocyte proliferation, and the ability to inhibit normal fibroblast proliferation. SOLUTION: The substances are compounds each formed by altering part of an artocarpin molecule and artocarpin analogues including artocarpin's hydrogenated products, demethylated products, methoxy adducts, methylated products, acetylated products, dihydroxylated products, dimethyl ether adducts, epoxidized products, and hydroxylated products. These compounds have the high ability to inhibit testosterone-5α-reductase activity, the high activities of inhibiting and suppressing cancer cell proliferation, the high abilities to inhibit cyclooxygenase and 5-lipoxygenase, the high ability to inhibit normal melanocyte proliferation, and the high ability to inhibit normal fibroblast proliferation.
