PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device of a telescopic boom type work machine capable of improving operability and workability, when horizontally moving in a straight line shape. SOLUTION: This control device has a telescopic limit or derricking limit detecting means of a telescopic boom 33, and is constituted for controlling driving of a turning driving means and a derricking driving means so that a tip part of the telescopic boom moves by maintaining the optional straight line direction in a plan view, based on indication of operation levers 1 and 2, when driving control by a driving control means cannot be performed by an arrival at a telescopic limit or a derricking limit of the telescopic boom, and controlling driving of a telescopic means, the turning driving means and the derricking driving means so that the tip part of the telescopic boom moves again in the optional straight line direction, based on the indication of the operation levers 1 and 2, when escaping from the telescopic limit or the derricking limit. With such a constitution, even if the telescopic boom is put under a work condition of reaching the telescopic limit or the derricking limit, the tip part of the telescopic boom temporarily moves by separating from a target moving straight line by continuously operating the operation levers, and returns to the movement in the optional straight line, when escaping from the telescopic limit or the derricking limit.
