PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for feeding and separating a material to be recorded capable of preventing a retard roller from being pushed down even when a rigid material to be recorded such as a cardboard or a special paper is passed, for preventing defective separation and defective feeding. SOLUTION: This device for feeding and separating a material to be recorded comprises a feed roller 3 for picking up the material to be recorded by rotating in a nipped state that a pressing force acts on the material 1 to be recorded placed on a hopper 2 and a retard roller 5 to which the material to be recorded picked up by the feed roller 3 is fed and which separates the material to be recorded at the highest position by performing a separating action in association with the feed roller on the downstream side of the pickup position 4. A direction changing action part 7 against which the head of the picked up material to be recorded strikes for changing the advancing direction to the direction toward the retard roller separating action position 6 is formed between the pickup position 4 and the retard roller 5.
