<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an intake silencer for an internal combustion engine provided with a resonance chamber and an air passage having an expansion chamber in a case compact. <P>SOLUTION: The air passage P in which air flowing in from an suction inlet Pi and flowing out of a downstream end opening Pe circulates, and the resonance chamber 84 communicating with the air passage P via a resonance communication path 85 are provided in the case C of the intake silencer A for the internal combustion engine. The air passage P includes the expansion chamber 82, an upstream passage part 81 in an upstream of the expansion chamber 81 and a downstream passage part 83 in a downstream of the expansion chamber 82. The upstream passage part 81 and the downstream passage part 83 are arranged at a position overlapping the expansion chamber 82 in the vertical direction.
