An apparatus for detecting a channel condition in a communications system and a method thereof are provided to detect the channel condition using a down-sampling signal after performing the down-sampling of an up-sampling signal inputted through a tuner. An apparatus for detecting a channel condition in a communications system comprises a matched filtering unit(51), a down-sampling unit(52), and a channel condition estimating unit(53). The matched filtering unit filters an up-sampling signal inputted through a tuner. The down-sampling unit performs the down-sampling of the up-sampling signal filtered in the matched filtering unit. By using the signal down-sampled in the down-sampling unit, the channel condition estimating unit estimates a channel condition.
