The present invention relates to a method for approximating a minimum comprising: a candidate group extraction unit providing input data values to comparators to provide candidate minimum group data values corresponding to the least input data values among the input data values respectively inputted to the comparators; and a minimum generation unit comparing the candidate minimum group data values to output a first minimum and a second minimum which are respectively the least value and the second least value among the candidate minimum group data values. According to embodiments of the present invention, the method for approximating a minimum can reduces the complexity of hardware to find a minimum included in a low-density parity-check (LDPC) decoder, so as to reduce the complexity of a system including the LDPC decoder.
