Specifically, the present invention relates to a process for preparing imidazoles of the formula (I): (I) which comprises conducting condensation between an .alpha.,.alpha.-dihaloaldehyde compound of the formula (II): (II) an aldehyde compound of the formula: R2-CHO and aqueous ammonia.
