A compound represented by formula (1), wherein in formula (1), R1 is hydrogen, fluorine, or alkyl having 1 to 10 carbons, wherein at least one —CH2— in the alkyl is optionally replaced with —O— or —S—, and at least one —CH2CH2— in the alkyl is optionally replaced with —CH═CH—, and wherein at least one hydrogen in these groups is optionally replaced with fluorine; ring A1 and ring A2 are independently 1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,4-phenylene, 1,4-phenylene in which at least one hydrogen has been replaced with fluorine, tetrahydropyran-2,5-diyl, 1,3-dioxane-2,5-diyl, pyridine-2,5-diyl, or pyrimidine-2,5-diyl; Z1, Z2 and Z3 are independently a single bond, —COO—, —OCH2—, —CF2O—, —CH2CH2—, —CF2CF2—, —CH═CH—, —CF═CF—, —C≡C—, —(CH2)4—, or —CH2CH═CHCH2—, wherein at least one of Z1, Z2 and Z3 is —CF2O—; X1 is hydrogen, fluorine, —CF3, or —OCF3; L1 and L2 are independently hydrogen or fluorine; and a is 0 or 1, b is 0 or 1, and the sum of a and b is 0 or 1. |
