The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for cross-linking or vulcanizing an elongate member. The method comprises: an extrusion step (2) of coating a conductive device with a layer of a cross-linkable synthetic material; and a cross-linking step (3) of performing a cross-linking reaction of the conductive device after the extrusion step. The cross-linking reaction is performed by first heating the coated conductive device at 550C or more in a first heating region (3a). The first heating region (3a) is positioned downstream of the extrusion step (2). The cross-linking reaction is performed by additionally heating the coated conductive device at 200-300C in a second heating region (3b) subsequent to the first heating region (3a).
