[Class 97 (iii)] A tool or sports implement in the rough state is finished by a series of planing or dressing operations performed with reference to intervening weighings, taken with the article resting on a lever type weighing apparatus between the fulcrum b and scale d with one end a<1> adjacent the fulcrum, Fig. 1, with the other end a<2> adjacent the fulcrum, Fig. 2, and also with the article resting with a predetermined point a<3> along its length adjacent the fulcrum, Fig. 3, the finishing operations proceeding until all the scale readings are in agreement with a set standard. In a modification, the lever a is supported by spring balances c at both ends and, when the article has been laid thereon, movable supports may be brought into position to act as fulcrums at various points along its length. In an article such as a tennis racquet part of which is laminated, the laminations are placed on the weighing lever to find the distribution of weight therein and the laminations are assembled so that this weight is evenly distributed over the laminated part.</p> |
