919,921. Crimping fibres. HEBERLEIN & CO. A.G. March 6, 1961 [March 30, 1960], No. 8122/61. Drawings to Specification. Class 120 (3). A monofilament of thermoplastic synthetic organic material e.g. a polyamide, polyester such as polyethylene terephthalate or vinyl polymer or copolymer such as polyacrylonitrile or polyvinyl chloride, and having a cross-section defining two unequal parts with no longitudinal axis of symmetry, is rolled to induce curving of the monofilament which is then subjected, under minimum tension to a heat treatment to develop crimp therein. The rolling imparts permanent plastic deformation to at least one part of the monofilament e.g. the other part may undergo a different degree of such deformation or a temporary elastic deformation. The parts of the initial monofilament may each have the configuration of part of a circle, the diameters of the two circles being different, Fig. la (not shown). Rolling may precede or follow normal drawing e.g. the freshly-spun monofilament may be rolled whilst still in plastic condition. The monofilament may be heated prior to rolling and/or the rollers, between which it is rolled, may be heated. Two or more juxtaposed monofilaments may be rolled simultaneously. |
